“Sly, ironic, witty, hip and humorous, Landesman’s songs – little known beyond “Spring Can Really Hang You Up the Most” and “Ballad of the Sad Young Men” – offer a trove of should-be standards that aren’t worn out. And Metcalf makes the most of these treasures with her horn-like alto and swinging attack.”

Something Irresistible: Songs of Fran Landesman + Simon Wallace

Two years ago Shepley discovered that Fran Landesman, lyricist of 1955 jazz standard “Spring Can Really Hang You Up The Most,” was still songwriting, and that since the mid-1990’s Fran and pianist Simon Wallace had written dozens of witty, poignant and sophisticated tunes. Shepley and her musical partner/pianist Ron Roy recorded fifteen of these new songs in the winter of 2010.

Something Irresistible is the first recording of the Landesman/Wallace songbook by a U.S. singer. See the liner notes and credits.

Recorded at Dreamworld Productions in Lynn, MA, the album features Boston-area talents Chris Rathbun on acoustic bass and Gene Roma on drums.
